The Greater Vancouver Food Bank was set up as a temporary relief to the hunger crisis in 1983, but the need still exists today.

We receive no recurring government funding and exist solely through the generosity of the public, our industry partners, and applicable grants.Β  Each month we provide healthy food to around 15,000 individuals and families in need and 150 Community Agency Partners across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, and the North Shore. In 2024, we distributed 68% fresh, perishable products to our clients, with an average of 10-15 items per weekly menu. Total estimated visits = 456,000.

Approximately 53% of our outbound food is shared with individual clients and 47% with our Agency Partners.

Over 1,000 registered volunteers support our various departments: Agencies, Warehouse, Distribution, Events, Finance, and Development. With 50,000 volunteer hours contributed, that's equivalent to 25 full-time staff!

We Are Hiring!

No Food Drives

After much consideration, we are no longer accepting food collected from food drives. This decision applies to fresh food and non-perishables of all kinds. However, we are still accepting palletized food from food industry partners, such as retailers, wholesalers and farmers. For more information, visit the link below.

Attention GVFB Donors

The Greater Vancouver Food Bank does NOT solicit door to door. If you encounter someone at your door asking for cash or food donations on behalf of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, please report to your local non-emergency police line.
